The first fire broke out on Tuesday, January 7, in Pacific Palisades. Our neighborhood, our restaurants. All our friends have lost everything.”

Rapid Spread of the Fires

  • Eaton Fire (Close Fire): Started around 6:30 pm on Tuesday, quickly spreading to 10,000 acres across Pasadena and Altadena by Wednesday morning.
  • Woodley Fire: Ignited by 6:15 am on January 8, burning through 75 acres.
  • Hurst Fire: Began around 10:30 pm on Tuesday and grew to 500 acres by Wednesday morning.
  • Tyler Fire: Sparked west of Los Angeles near Coachella and was 50% contained by Wednesday.

Due to the ongoing crisis, many entertainment events and film productions were postponed. As of Wednesday evening, five civilian lives had been lost, and the fire was being called the most destructive in Los Angeles County history. Over 1,100 structures have been destroyed, and 27,000 acres have been impacted, according to the Los Angeles Times.
