Playboi Carti has been talking about his third album for years, and now it’s finally here—he released “Music,” a 30-song album. People thought it would be called “I Am Music” at first. Big names like Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, the Weeknd, Skepta, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla Sign, and Young Thug are on it.
The album was supposed to come out at 12 a.m. PT but got delayed and dropped around 4:45 a.m. instead. Lamar is on “Good Credit,” Scott is on “Crush,” “Philly,” and “Wake Up F1lthy,” while the Weeknd is on “Rather Lie.” Skepta features on “Toxic,” Future on “Charge Dem Hoes a Fee” and “Trim,” Lil Uzi Vert on “Jumpin” and “Twin Trim,” and Ty Dolla Sign and Young Thug on “We Need All Da Vibes.”
Playboi Carti’s last album, “Whole Lotta Red,” came out in 2020 with Kanye West, Future, and Kid Cudi on it. Soon after, he started hinting at his next album, first calling it “Narcissist.” A 2021 release date passed, and in 2022, he said it was now “Music,” then “I Am Music,” and back to “Music.” Over time, he played new songs like “Rockstar,” “Fuck on My DJ,” and “Pop Out” at festivals, and shared bits of “Different Day,” “Skinny Jeans,” and “Ketamine” online.
In September 2024, he released “All Red,” which fans thought was the first single from “Music” and meant the album was coming soon. Last month, he started building hype with Spotify billboards across the country. This week, Spotify shared a teaser video online and put up a billboard in Times Square. On Wednesday, Playboi Carti confirmed “Music” would drop on Friday by posting an Instagram of British artist Blackhaine announcing it.
